Facts behind Nike Logo!
The creator of the NIKE Swoosh symbol was only paid $35 for the design.
ABOUT THE CREATOR
Carolyn Davidson is a graphic designer best known as the creator of the Nike "swoosh".
Davidson designed the swoosh in 1971 while a graphic design student at Portland State University. Phil Knight, who was teaching an accounting class at the university, noticed Davidson working on an assignment, and asked her to do some work for what was then Blue Ribbon Sports, Inc. Needing to choose a logo in order to meet looming production deadlines, Knight settled on the swoosh, after rejecting various other designs. At the time, he stated of the logo, "I don't love it, but it will grow on me."
For her services, she billed the company $35. The swoosh became an instantly-recognizable insignia for Nike around the world, and Davidson continued working for what is now Nike, Inc. Eventually, the design demands of the company grew beyond one person's capacity, and she turned over her duties to Nike's new advertising agency.
Although Davidson left Nike in September 1983, Knight invited her to a company lunch. There, he presented her with a diamond ring engraved with the swoosh, and an undisclosed amount of Nike stock. Of the gift, Davidson says, "this was something rather special for Phil to do, because I originally billed him and he paid that invoice."
Davidson retired in 2000, and now engages in hobbies and volunteer work, including weekly duties at the Ronald McDonald House at Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center.

Petrol prices up by Rs 3.14 a litre
Petrol prices have been hiked by Rs. 3.14 a litre, which will be effective from midnight today
"This after state-owned oil firms met the Petroleum Secretary in Mumbai today to make a case for a hike, after the rupee touched a two-year low against the US dollar," NDTV reports.
Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp (BPCL) and Hindsutan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) now lose Rs 2.61 per litre due to high international crude oil prices and with rupee touching two-year low against the US dollar, the losses have increased the cost of importing crude oil.
Petrol price was last hiked by Rs 5 per litre on May 15. It costs Rs 63.70 per litre in Delhi.
Petrol price was freed from the government control in June last year, but the retail rates have not moved in line with cost as high inflation rate forced the oil companies to seek 'advice' from parent oil ministry before revising rates.
IOC, BPCL and HPCL have reportedly lost Rs 2,450 crore this fiscal on selling petrol below the cost.
Besides petrol, the three firms are losing Rs 263 crore per day on selling diesel, domestic LPG and kerosene below cost. Diesel is being sold at a subsidy of Rs 6.05 a litre, kerosene at Rs 23.25 per litre while domestic LPG rates are under-priced by Rs 267 per 14.2-kg cylinder.
A fall in the value of rupee increases the cost of importing crude oil. The rupee fell to 48 per dollar on Wednesday for the first time since September 2009. (ANI)

E-Textiles
E-textiles, also known as Electronic textiles or Smart textiles, are fabrics that have electronics and interconnections woven into them, with physical flexibility and size that cannot be achieved with existing electronic manufacturing techniques. Part of the development of wearable technology, they are known as intelligent clothing or smart clothing because they allow for the incorporation of built-in technological elements in everyday textiles and clothes. Electronic textiles do not strictly encompass wearable computing because emphasis is placed on the seamless integration between the fabric and the electronic elements, such as cables, micro controllers, sensors and actuators.
One of the pioneers in electronic textiles is Rehmi Post, a Visiting Scientist at the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms, who earned his a M.Sc. at the MIT Media Lab for the development of e-broidery, a means of fabricating electronic circuitry on wash-and-wear textile substrates. Examples of his pioneering work in this field have appeared widely in museum collections, including a long-term loan to the Wellcome Wing of London's Museum of Science.
