Worlds Smallest Petrol Engine

Scientists have built the smallest petrol engine in the world ( less than a centimeter long not even half an inch), small enough to power a watch or any small gadget. The mini-motor, which runs for two years on a single squirt of lighter fuel, is set to revolutionize world technology. It generates 700 times more energy than a conventional battery. It could be used to operate laptops and mobile phones for months doing away with the need for charging. Experts believe it could be phasing out batteries in such items within just six years. The engine, minute enough to be balanced on a fingertip, has been produced by engineers at the University of Birmingham.

Dr Kyle Jiang, lead investigator from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, said: “We are looking at an industrial revolution happening in people's pockets. The breakthrough is an enormous step forward. Devices which need re-charging or new batteries are a problem but in six years will be a thing of the past.”

Other applications for the engine could include medical and military uses, such as running heart pacemakers or mini reconnaissance robots.

At present, charging an ordinary battery to deliver one unit of energy involves putting 2,000 units into it. The little engine, because energy is produced locally, is far more effective.

One of the main problems faced by engineers who have tried to produce micro motors in the past has been the levels of heat produced. The engines got so hot they burned themselves out and could not be re-used. The Birmingham team overcame this by using heat-resistant materials such as ceramic and silicon carbide.

THE 9-YEAR-OLD COLLEGE STUDENT TANISHQ ABRAHAM

We congratulate Tanishq Abraham for making India proud with his super intelligence. He took entire America by surprise when he was tested for extraordinary intelligence and scored 99.9 percentile.

At 7, he gave lectures to students who were twice of his age.

Today, Tanishq, whose name means "Jewel" in Sanskrit is only 9 and already completed one third of the credits needed for a college degree at the American River College in Sacramento, California.

Tanishq is born to mother Dr Taji, a doctor of veterinary medicine and father
Bijou Abraham, a software engineer. And he speaks his mother tongue Malayalam at home and wants to become a Scientist.

At 9-years-old he was inducted into genius society Mensa at the age of 4, and scores in the 99.9 percentile on a standardized intelligence test.

Genius: Seen before one class, the 9-year-old boy is described by one geology professor as being at the top of the class, to initial intimidation from other students

Induction: Tanishq was inducted into Mensa at the age of four scoring in the 99.9 percentile on the standardized intelligence test

Genetics: No doubt adding to his family's pride, his little sister Tiara, 6, is in Mensa too scoring in the 98.8 percentile

If you’ve ever wondered why honeybees tend to die after stinging someone, the below pictures says it all.

In an incredible capture by Kathy Keatley Garvey, a UC Davis Communications Specialist in the Department of Enomology, we see a bee stinging a person’s arm and then attempting to fly away as the stinger remains lodged in the victim. That trail of goo you see? It’s actually the bee’s abdominal tissue. The remarkable capture netted Garvey the first-place gold feature photo award in an Association for Communication Excellence competition.On the fortunate timing, Garvey said she was walking with a friend and a bee came close to him and started buzzing in a high-pitch. She said that’s normally a telltale sign that a bee’s about to sting, so she readied her camera and snapped four photos.

Breaking News: US Astronaut Neil Armstrong, first man on the moon is dead at 82

Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, has died at the age of 82, after suffering complications from heart surgery, NBC News is reporting.

Mysterious 'space ball' lands in Namibia

A large metallic ball fell out of the sky on a remote grassland in Namibia, prompting baffled authorities to contact NASA and the European space agency.

The hollow ball with a circumference of 1.1 meters (43 inches) was found near a village in the north of the country some 750 kilometers (480 miles) from the capital Windhoek, according to police forensics director Paul Ludik.

Locals had heard se...veral small explosions a few days beforehand, he said.

With a diameter of 35 centimeters (14 inches), the ball has a rough surface and appears to consist of "two halves welded together".

It was made of a "metal alloy known to man" and weighed six kilograms (13 pounds), said Ludik.

It was found 18 meters from its landing spot, a hole 33 centimeters deep and 3.8 meters wide.
Several such balls have dropped in southern Africa, Australia and Latin America in the past twenty years, authorities found in an Internet search.

The sphere was discovered mid-November, but authorities first did tests before announcing the find.

Police deputy inspector general Vilho Hifindaka concluded the sphere did not pose any danger.

"It is not an explosive device, but rather hollow, but we had to investigate all this first," he said.

Earthquake measuring 6.8 hits Sikkim. Tremors across North India.

An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale hit North India on Sunday and the epicenter was 64 km from Gangtok in Sikkim at 6:10 pm, causing damages in the area. Mild tremors were felt in Delhi and other parts of North India. Tremors were felt in Patna, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal also.

Reports said that tremors were felt for almost 30 seconds. People in most parts of North and East India rushed out of their homes in panic.

Aftershocks measuring 6.1 and 5.3 on the richter scale were also felt around Sikkim 20 minutes after the earthquake.
